Divine Destiny

Gary Cooperberg, April 8, 2008

The government of the State of Israel seems to be completely independent of the People of Israel. When were the people of Israel ever consulted about giving away parts of our homeland to our enemies? How dare any government arbitrarily decide to throw its citizens out of their homes and place them into a mini exile within Israel?! And if this weren’t enough, even as Gaza has been turned into a mini terrorist state which continues to fire missiles into Israel, our leaders are holding discussions about further retreat and of the establishment of yet another enemy state upon Jewish soil!

It boggles the imagination that any such government can get away with activities which clearly place the Jewish State in dire danger. Shimon Peres was the genius who decided to make Arafat, the greatest terrorist of his time, into the king of palestine and the recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize, no less. How wonderful was the peace he negotiated with that monster. Yet insanity seems to be contagious. Not only have our leaders failed to notice the miserable mess we are in as a result of attempted negotiations with terrorists, but they insist upon sticking our heads even further into the lion’s mouth.

Arafat is dead and Abu Mazen is not nearly bloodthirsty enough to qualify as an adequate successor. So we now have more brilliant leaders who have been pushing to free Marwan Barghouti, a mass murderer of Jews who was sentenced to five life times in jail plus 100 years for his terrorist achievements. Clearly this qualifies him to be the new king of palestine. Two former Israeli Ministers of Defense are leading the efforts to free this murderer and make him the new leader of the PLO in order that we negotiate peace with him.

One needn’t be a professor of international law to realize that something is dreadfully wrong with this picture. How self-hating can a nation be when it seeks to humble itself before those who seek its destruction? Were Israel truly a self respecting nation Barghouti would have long ago been executed as he well deserves. What is the lesson we are giving to our enemies? We are showing them that murdering Jews is the way to achieve all that they want. We should be showing them that murdering Jews will bring them nothing but death and destroy everything they seek to achieve. Rather than executing terrorists and expelling all of the Arabs who support them, we reward them!

For those who haven’t noticed, the State of Israel today is neither a Jewish State nor a democracy. It spits in the face of the electorate and runs this country as if it were a private club of the elite few. Shimon Peres was never elected by the people, yet he has had tremendous influence over nearly every government, no matter which party was ruling. It was the ancient dream of Zion which inspired truly selfless Jews to fight and die to establish a Jewish State. Today our own leaders have made it almost a crime to be a Zionist. Indeed, the leaders of the modern state of Israel have, in effect, endorsed the UN resolution declaring Zionism to be racism!

The Arab "citizens" of Israel who call themselves "palestinians" are enemies of the Jewish State. They even seek to destroy us from within our own Knesset and have been doing a great job. Our hapless leaders who wouldn’t recognize the concept of self respect if they tripped over it, do not know what to do with Arab enemies who clearly do have self respect. How many of our best young men were sent to their death by our government rather than possibly inflict casualties upon our "innocent" enemies? There can be no better example of how not to lead a nation then that set by the leaders of the Jewish State.

What they all fail to understand is the fact that Israel is not a political entity. It is the beginning of fulfillment of Jewish Destiny as outlined in our Torah and the writings of our prophets of old. It was not the might of our own hands that enabled us to thwart the efforts by overwhelming enemy armies to destroy us, rather the Hand of G-d which intervened and not only defeated them, but brought us back to more of our Divine inheritance. Our leaders not only refuse to see the miracles, but they seek to make peace by undoing them! They think that their plans are better than that of the Eternal. Yet, if they would but open their eyes, they can clearly see that all of their efforts have brought us pain and suffering and have driven their goal of peace further away than ever before. One would think that they would follow their own advice and really give peace a chance. . . by trying it G-d’s way and acting like proud Jews rather than disinterested negotiators. Would they have the courage to do so they would hasten Redemption and truly herald a new era of genuine peace.

Because the State of Israel is truly a G-dly process, in spite of all of the efforts by our leaders to turn it into a political entity like unto all of the other nations, not even our leaders can succeed in destroying this country. It is a land which G-d Himself watches over day and night.

Any impartial observer can clearly see this throughout the modern history of our reborn state. So let us not waste our time and fall prey to fear and worry about our future. Rather let us all demonstrate our faith in the Divine Process and conduct our lives accordingly. Now is the time for Jews all over the world to realize that the ancient dream of Zion is beginning to come true. The Exile is coming to an end and it is a dreadful sin to willfully live in Exile when you have the ability to come home. The dangers which seem so clear are really a challenge to our faith. They present us with a great opportunity to express our faith. If we fail to take this opportunity when we still can, eventually the Exile will spit us out and our homecoming will be stained by the fact that we failed to respond to G-d’s miracles and had to be brought home against our own will.
