The Real Demonstration

Gary Cooperberg, May 2, 2005

If the Jewish people had logically considered their condition back in Egypt, escape would never have even been an option. If we look at the proposed surrender to the PLO today and its likely consequences, the logical conclusion would be to just pack up and leave. Once a surrender is begun, it is most likely to continue unto completion. Sharon has chosen to ignore the logical consequences of his foolhardy decision. He would like to think that by retreating from our enemies and abandoning parts of our homeland, he will win the support of the USA and European countries in order to hold on to what is left of our homeland. Yet the actual result of this retreat is to demonstrate to the world that we really do not believe that this is our homeland. All of the lies and propaganda espoused by our enemies are now being endorsed by the Israeli government!

Since we have a government which has ignored the fact that it was only via G-dly miracles that this country was established and continues to thrive, it would seem that our punishment will be to have a taste of what the results would have been were they left to our hapless leaders. All of the wars fought in this country were wars for our very survival. Had we lost even one we would not exist today. The miracle of the Six Day War was so stupendous that even our own generals could not explain our amazing success. Yet, as time passes, it seems that the miracles are forgotten. Rather than truly accepting the miracles and thanking our G-d for performing them for us, we reject our G-d and turn to the USA to protect us. It is our Prime Minister who has dared present the PLO with an independent state entirely upon Jewish soil! It is our Prime Minister who dares announce that not one Jew will be left in all of Gaza! No anti Semite could get away with such an abominable plan, yet our very own government has chosen to force it down our throats!

The fact is that, even were a majority of Jews to vote for such a plan it would be invalid. When does a country vote upon its own self destruction? The state of Israel was not a gift to the Jewish People. It was a gift from G-d to all creation. It was destined to be a Divine country populated by true servants of G-d in order to demonstrate to all of Mankind that it does have a Creator. That we have a leadership which has other ideas can, in no way, alter our destiny. All it can and will do is bring us needless suffering along with that destiny.

It may well be that Sharon is inadvertently hastening our redemption by placing us in such danger that G-d will need to directly intervene in order to prevent our enemies from destroying us. But this is no pleasant thing. By denying our G-d we invite His Wrath upon ourselves. The proper way to hasten redemption is to demonstrate our trust in G-d by defying the nations of the world and turning our country into the beacon of light it is destined to become. But how can we do this? Our only problem is our failure to understand that it is not "we" who do this. It is G-d. All He expects from us is to trust in Him and demonstrate that trust by action.

The best thing a Jew can do to hasten redemption is simply to come home! Especially now, when it seems foolhardy to do so. By coming home at such a time as this we are clearly demonstrating faith in G-d. It is this kind of demonstration which hastens redemption. And if you already live here, you must stand up to the challenge and refuse to accept evil decrees. We will not only continue to live and grow in our homeland, but we will make it better every day. The truth is that our future is already guaranteed. It is not within Sharon’s power to undo miracles. The only question is will we stand with our destiny or will we seek to escape it. If we stand with Jewish Destiny we will hasten it and cause it to be glorious. If we seek to escape it, it will still come, but needlessly accompanied with tragedy and with hidden miracles.

For Jews who are truly concerned with the safety and the future of their children, the only course is to come home as soon as possible. Israel is the only future we have. Sharon and his follies will not endure. But now we can truly demonstrate our faith in Jewish destiny. It is an opportunity which will not last for long.
