Road to Temple Mount Uncovered International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, March 31, 2006Israeli archaeologists reported Thursday that they have uncovered the main road that ran from Jerusalem's City of David to the Temple Mount during the time of the Second Temple. The road connected the Shiloh pool in the City of David, just outside the walls of the Old City, to the Temple Mount compound. The 2,000-year-old road was used by tens of thousands of pilgrims flocking to Jerusalem for the Jewish holidays during the Second Temple Period who would ritually immerse themselves in the pool before entering the Temple Mount. Israeli Antiquities Authority archaeologist and leader of the dig, Eli Shukrun, said that the road shows the centrality of both the Temple and the pool for Jewish life in the city at the time.
