First Temple "Relic" A Forgery

Experts said an ivory pomegranate long believed to be a First Temple implement is a forgery.

The revelation, announced Friday by the Israel museum, is part of a wider investigation into an alleged forgery ring.

The pomegranate is in fact much older than the first Temple, built in the 6th century, BCE -- it dates to the Bronze Age. An inscription identifying it as a temple implement, is recent and a forgery.
