Controversial Islamic Scholar To Leave US

A controversial Islamic scholar gave up his efforts to teach at a U.S. university.

Tariq Ramadan decided Tuesday to give up his appointment at Notre Dame. Under terms of the Patriot Act, the State Department in August revoked a visa granted to Ramadan, who some consider an apologist for radical Islam.

Ramadan has spoken out against anti-Semitism, though he angered many Jews by saying that French Jewish intellectuals’ religious and ethnic identity prevents them from adhering to universal values.
