Presbyterian Preacher Against Divestment From Israel Gary Fitleberg, November 23, 2004An Alabama preacher and rabbi gave sermons in each other’s institutions to demonstrate opposition to the Presbyterian Church’s decision to divest from Israel. Ed Hurley of the South Highland Presbyterian Church USA delivered a talk during an Oct. 8 Shabbat service at Temple Emanu-El in Birmingham, and Rabbi Jonathan Miller returned the favor on Nov. 14, the Birmingham News reported. Children from the two congregations also are visiting each other’s religious schools. The Presbyterian church recently voted to begin a "phased selective divestment" process from companies that do business with Israel.
