Obama’s Back-Pedaling

Kevin McCullough, August 15, 2004

Barack Obama is singing a new song these days - a quiet one. Fresh off his exuberant reception as the new rock star of the Democratic Party at last month's convention, he does suddenly not want to talk so much. The reason is quite simple to understand - Alan Keyes is making sense. And common sense and plain spoken truth are threats to a liberal in search of a power base.

Though the media seems insistent upon dismissing Keyes by saying he has no real chance of winning, Obama tucked tail and ran to the hills at the first sight of him. Now that's a most curious reaction don't you think?

Oh sure - back in Obama was licking it his chops at debating a weakened opponent he threw down lofty challenges.

"Six debates!"

He felt sure of himself - so sure that he didn't appear to care the number of times he might be asked to stand and defend his record - he felt superior in his oratory and debate skills so he aimed high. And he expected the freshman republican candidate to balk, no doubt giving him a rhetorical advantage about his ability to articulate and defend positions when under fire.

Problem is - his opponent is no freshman candidate. And now the idea of six debates with state-wide audiences appears to be a forum where Obama just might rhetorically regurgitate upon himself. And that is too big of a risk for the half-African, half-Caucasian Obama to be subject to.

Obama will suddenly now be forced to defend positions he has taken and votes he has cast.

For example, Barack Obama has voted in favor of a procedure that allows hospitals to neglect a baby after it has been born. Obama would take up the cause of hospitals like Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn who used to selectively screen for birth defects, attempt a late term abortion, and if the child survived lay the crying infant in the soiled utility closet until it died from lack of food and water. Yep - Barack Obama voted in favor of allowing this procedure.

But that's not all. Obama also valiantly fights for the rights of a doctor to take a baby girl already being born - merely two inches from breathing her first breath of oxygen in her own lungs, thrust scissors into the base of the baby girl's skull, crush the baby girl's brains, suction them out and deliver the now dead infant the rest of the way. Only two inches from having the protections of all other humans - the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of not letting a doctor suck your brains out. Obama believes that this is a vital medical procedure. Though I doubt he sought the baby girl's opinion on that one.

Obama believes that we are not at war with terrorists. At least he doesn't believe that we should be, and if given the chance to vote on it - he'll prove it to you.

Obama does believe that terrorists threaten us though. He sees them in the form of judges. And to be specific he believes that any judge who actually believes the constitution does guarantee the right to "life" for those baby girls and boys amongst us - must be stopped.

He's also heavy into "When Harry married Larry"...claiming to be a Christian church going man on the one hand yet earning the distinction of pushing the same sex marriage issue farther in Illinois than any leader to ever seek the U.S. Senate -- now that's quite a feat.

The problem is - now there is an opponent in this race that has had a history of "making sense".

As a fully African-American like Keyes can tell you, discrimination because you are not yet born is just as fully evil and reprehensible as discrimination because your skin is black (or even milky tan like in Obama's case).

Keyes also doesn't ask one to suspend the basics of their morality just to support a political party that has continually sold his community up the river. I mean how can the "Rev." Jesse Jackson square his support for the same-sex friendly Obama? How can Rev. James Meeks support the candidate for Senate who voted in favor of letting babies die in the soiled utility room?

Keyes believes there is no complicated answer to this. Keyes believes that the Almighty says what he means and Keyes believes what the Almighty says.

So what's it going to be...Obama buying his way to the Senate seat with 10 million dollars - so that scissors can be thrust in baby's heads, or children are left to die in soiled utility closets? Or will you be willing to roll up your sleeve, talk to your neighbor, and get a lot of us Illinois voters to "make sense" on election day?

See with a record like what Obama has - he'd have to be nuts to debate Keyes six times. So he's run for the hills, never more to be seen...er...until the 10 million dollar ads come out.

I wonder what the Kenyan word for chicken is...
