Israel To Test Arrow’s Ability To Stop Iran’s Shihab 3
International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, 4 Apr 2008
The Israeli Air Force plans to test the Arrow anti-ballistic missile system's capacity for detecting and destroying Iran’s more advanced Shihab 3 missile.
In upcoming weeks the Green Pine Radar, a vital component of the Arrow defense program, will be used to track down a Black Sparrow missile made by Rafael that is similar to Iran’s most sophisticated ballistic missile, the Shihab 3.
The Black Sparrow will be launched by an IAF jet off Israel’s coast to mock the Shihab 3 and the Green Pine Radar will try to detect and identify the approaching missile and then the Citron Tree battle center will gather the data and forward it to an Arrow battery. The actual Arrow missile will not be launched during the practice drill, according to defense officials.
Defense officials stressed that the exercise was a routine annual test for the Arrow and was not related to the recent tensions between Israel and Syria.
