Syrians Beginning To Reject Islamist Factions

ICEJ, 12 July 2013

The civil war in Syria descended further into chaos on Thursday when fighters with an al-Qaida linked group assassinated a senior commander in the Western- and Arab-backed Free Syrian Army, according to an FSA statement.

"The Islamic State phoned me saying that they killed (Kamal Hamami) and that they will kill all of the Supreme Military Council," Qassem Saadeddine, a Free Syrian Army spokesman, told Reuters.

Sporadic reports out of Syria indicate that Islamist groups are fast wearing out their welcome, with local Syrians complaining that they have tried to impose strict versions of Islam on the areas under their military control and otherwise abusing local populations.
