It's Time For Christians to Take a Stand For Israel

By Linda Torres, March 15, 2002

I have had enough. Each day I browse the internet searching for news about Israel and the "Middle East Conflict" and related subjects. I receive email from various journalist/writers who are experts on Israel for various reasons. I received an email from Yaffah DaCosta, a Jewish journalist, today in which she asked the question, "Where are the righteous Gentiles?" She is referring to the lack of outcry against the introduction of a motion of the US delegate to the UN Security Council against Israel among other questionable behaviors.

The time is short and each of us has to determine the testimony we give concerning whose side we favor. Yes, there is the proverbial line in the sand. And just as in the Sinai for the Jews, it has been drawn for Christians today. Events are hurtling ever so quickly to the denouement of the ages. I have determined to be on the side of the God of the Universe, the God of Avraham, Itzchak, and Yaacov, and the God of my Savior Yahshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ for those of you who haven’t gotten around to learning a bit of Hebrew, the tongue at least close to the language our Savior spoke and will probably speak when He returns to earth).

I am a born-again Christian, redeemed by the blood of Yahshua HaMashiach. I have been baptized by water and by the Holy Spirit and I speak in tongues. I love Israel and the Jews. I present these characteristics as my credentials to exhort the Christians in the US to wake up and speak out against the direction this country is headed. I am not formally credentialed as a journalist but I can hear what the Holy Spirit is saying.

Israel is hurting. Most of the world for some inane reason and the claim that "the devil makes me do it" has decided that because Israel struggles against those who would destroy her that she is the aggressor and should be disciplined. Europe makes decisions based either on fear from the complete lack of understanding of the Bible, or even in the face of that understanding. The remnants of the Soviet bloc and the Asians never had much understanding of the Scriptures to begin with. Africa has its own problems and South America believes what the Catholic Church says to believe. But the Americans!!! In spite of the grand slide into the abyss of wickedness there are still substantial numbers of CHRISTIANS in this country who have not only learned the scriptures but also have maintained a life worthy to be called righteous or at least an attempt at righteousness. These are the very ones that are preoccupied with a life that is soon going to be history.

I received a ten page advertisement in the mail several months ago presenting selections of Christmas presents from a "Christian" book dealer. Not one book was about Israel. There were selections by an author who is known to write about Israel and prophecies concerning Israel but none of those books were offered. That tells you what the Christians think about and it is not Israel.

I have talked to Christians who haven’t a clue what is happening in the Middle East. While they use their Four Spiritual Laws and read watered down Scripture commentaries on how to be a good person, Israel is in the midst of a tremendous battle for its life almost totally unequipped. They are not sure why all the evil is coming upon them and are even more unsure how to get out of the situation in which they find themselves. The spiritual armor we have in this country is like an arsenal of nuclear bombs. But we are only using them for our comforts and well being--our "success" in life.

Some Christians excuse this behavior with the rhymeless reason that the church has replaced Israel. Or they give lip service to the importance of Israel in prophecy and so believe that these events have to occur and so what. I tell you, God our Father has two children and has not disowned either. It will be a great surprise to those who have not read the Tenakh (Old Testament) and do not realize that when God gave his Word to Israel He intended then and now to keep it. God can and will perform His Word without Christians but I prefer to be included in His activities. Ha Eretz (the land of Israel) belongs to Israel and any Christian who undermines that possession actively or passively is first of all standing in ignorance -- not a particularly good place to be -- and is asking for disfavor from the God who gave it to Israel and Who will return all of it to their possession.

Romans chapters 9 through 11 is coming soon. I rejoice for it. I have made a public profession of faith before and today I make a public profession of solidarity with my Father’s plan. Our Father has pledged Himself to Israel: that if He ever abandons Israel the universe would fall apart. He has even outlined in the prophets the blow by blow plan for the destruction of Israel’s enemies -- the ones who today have gained the favor of the world and are attempting eat Israel alive. I stand with Israel and call upon the Christians of this country, in particular those in high office (Mr. Bush and colleagues), who have professed allegiance to the Jew who spent His Blood for us, to return to a course that will make it clear that this country created by God stands with His plans and underwrites the existence of Israel with faith, money, politics, bombs, and whatever else it takes.
